The base works like an invisible shield between the original beauty of the Terracotta pot and harsh sun and rain. Use this sealer to retain the natural look of your pottery pieces. Just brush it on the inside and outside of your pottery. One coat is all that is needed. A clay pot contributes to the health of its plant. Terracotta clay is a natural and perfectly ecological material which allows it to create a perfect ecosystem. Through its absorbent sides the soil can dispel the excess water which is bound to stagnate in other types of containers. A lack of adequate drainage is probably the greatest single cause of trouble among container grown plants. Water must escape freely from terracotta pottery for outdoor use. Plants can grow outdoors in containers without drainage holes only if they are sheltered from rain. Otherwise you will have waterlogged roots that are harmful to your plants. That is why you can see the water lines on the outside of these pots. But the waterlines serve to enhance the natural beauty of the pot. Terracotta Clay pots keep the root system at the correct temperature and help the root system to breathe and stay healthy. Terracotta containers come in many shapes and sizes from simple pots to square sided, decorative planters, urns and troughs.
